  July 9, 1970 I t has been five long weeks since my last entry.  Many things have happened.  Around the end of May, Elder C. and began teaching R.A.’s  (G)girlfriend V. O. She certainly was a golden contact.  We taught her in Sister A.s home She accepted everything beautifully.  I was impressed with her meekness and spirituality.  Sister A. really grew as a result of seeing the discussions taught.  It was Sister A’s love and friendship that made G.’s baptism possible. The evening of G.s baptism was a humbling experience for me.   Due to a series of errors she had not been interviewed by the District Leader. As a result, I’d never told her the hour of the baptism. Sister A. straightened that out.   I had arranged a last minute interview that afternoon.   My companion and I were rushed—we had a 3 rd to teach. We arrived at Sister A.’s at 6:00 to discover the interview had fallen through once again!   I was aghast..this thre...

  June 4, 1970   Well a lot has happened since my last entry.  Once again I have a new companion, Elder C.  Elder B. has been gone for three weeks.  Nonetheless he is still fresh in my memory.  We worked hard, but not hard enough.  We taught a few people.  Brother K. asked to be taught; he was contemplating a divorce and he wanted spiritual comfort.  He was sincere in his desire to be close to God but he was lazy.  He wanted a golden solution, a spiritual recreation..but he wanted us to feed it to him..to perform some sort of miracle.  He dropped out of the program.   I suppose I’m rather discouraged now.  We’re not teaching many golden people.  Nobody is ready for baptism.  I have learned to really talk to people ”at the door.”  You have to make a friend of everyone and then bear them your testimony.  Elder B.   April 19, 1970                        I’m now a District Leader Companion in Kent.  My companion is Elder M.B.  He’s quite a fellow.  It seems as though his mission has changed him somewhat.  Nonetheless, he’s still very liberal.  Elder B. is a serious thinker.  He is highly critical and examines things closely.  I doubt that he accepts anything at face value.  He is really concerned about missionary work.  The Lord’s work is important.  He came on a mission because a girl he liked wanted a Returned Missionary.  He wanted to be the type of guy she would want.  Since then he has dedicated himself to the Lord’s work.  He admits to his own weaknesses, but still maintains his goals.  I believe he’s attaining a great deal of humility.  Elder B. is extremely perceptive, extremely sensitive.    In development meeting on Tuesday we read The Litt...

  Friday, the 3 rd , was a bad day.  C. was visiting members in Tacoma and missed our rendezvous.  He made no effort to contact us.  We left him in Tacoma and went home to Bremerton.  At dinner my anger showed through. Elder G. promised to relive me of my problem—my transfer was eminent.  After dinner Elder W. and I left to teach Bro. M.  We had a good discussion; showed him the film, “ And They Shall Hear My Voice .” Brother M. desires to know the truth.  He finally realized though that he is going to have to humble himself and pray. Saturday was Bremerton’s “Missionary For a Day.”  President and Sister W., Elders M & E (the assistants to the present), S. (Zone Leader) were there.  It ran smoothly.  Many invitations to conference and to Bishop H’s lecture were distributed.  I worked with K. S., M. and J.
