  October 13, 1970 Brother B. talked about stewardship at his “Living Prophets” Lecture last Wednesday.(Institute) Stewardship is a responsibility for something we do not own.   Scripturally it is mentioned in         D& C 72, 100 and parts of 70.  God has given us stewardship over three important things:  our bodies; our minds; and our spirits.  It might also be noted that actually we “own” nothing (except for our intelligence, and we’re not sure about that.)  Our bodies have been called the “temple of God.”  In the creation our Heavenly Father created our Spirit from intelligences (Heavenly Mother played her role too.) Intelligences are: 1) matter; 2) eternal; 3) not created; 4) cannot be destroyed; and 5) have agency.   Even Christ was owned by the Father and he turned his agency over to the Father. “Whose I am, even the Father.” (D&C 19:1) It seems to be an everlasting principle that our ego must be satis...

  October 20, 1970 It seems that all of my entries are inspired by a change, and this one is no different.   I’m leaving Moscow to enter the Lamanite Program. The past ten days have been busy ones.  Saturday, the 10th, M. received her final discussion.  She was eager to be baptized.  The date was set for Thursday, Oct. 15 th .  M. had to overcome many problems but  her desire was deep and sincere.  On Monday we brought her some Postum.  No longer would coffee stand in her way.  M. came to us very lonely, and she found warmth and friendship amongst the LDS students.  Watching her grow was a choice experience. M.C. was taught rapidly.  She would have been baptized six days after the first, on Oct. 10, but she insisted on letting Brother G. baptize her.  All along she knew the things we taught were true.  We taught her in three settings.   September 15, 1970 Another month has flown by.  It marks my eighth month out. I’m also preparing to leave Lewiston and meet my eighth companion!  The district has undergone many radical changes.  Elder T. took Elder P’s place and Elder T is from Big Bear Lake, California. He’s a very sharp greenie.  Elder C. is gone. Elder H. is replacing him.  Elder W. took B’s place! This week Elder A. is going to be Zone Leader in Zone 7.  The Lewiston District Leader is moving to Moscow, the Moscow brethren to Pullman and two new elders to Lewiston!  This is typical of the confusion that prevails here in Idaho. My companionship with Elder A. was a strong one.   He is a determined personality and when we conflicted, we met head on.   That was good.   I had difficulty respecting his authority, but I did my best to support him always.   We worked hard to keep a unity in our companionship despite differences of opinion.   A lot of the ...

  Lewistown August 4, 1970 This morning I found out I am on my way to Lewiston this Friday.   I’ll be District Leader Companion to Elder J. T.   Although nobody had served official notice of my transfer, I’ve known for quite some time that I’d be going on Friday.   I could sort of sense it.   Maybe the Spirit was just witnessing to me…I was really getting sort of trunky… I cannot say I’m sad to leave, but it’s hard to say good-bye.   I’ve become close to many of the families here in Kent.   I cannot name them all. Many choice teaching experiences have been our lot recently.   In teaching B. on Thursday there was a conflict with Primary.   She watched Primary until we could begin teaching the lesson.   She was really impressed.   In her closing prayer she mentioned Primary.   On Sunday she brought a friend, G.S.   We taught a 3 rd .   In closing B. prayed for G. to know the truth.   B. is slightly golden! ...

  July 27, 1970 ”My cup runneth over.”   The Lord has certainly blessed my companion and me the past few weeks. On Saturday, July 11 th , five of the B. family were baptized.   It was certainly a joyous occasion.   I baptized J., E., and Brother B. Elder D. baptized Sister B. and M.   We confirmed those whom our companion had baptized.   C. was still holding back.   Brother L. and Sister M. were not baptized, nor was L.   Sunday, July 19 , Elder S. challenged C. to baptism once again.   Monday evening he was baptized into the Federal Way Ward.       Elder D and I have been visiting the C. family recently.    Their in-laws have been visiting and prevented us from teaching them.    Saturday evening the 25 th , we showed them the film strip, “What is a Mormon?”   They are leaving for vacation soon, but they will be taking the lessons this week.   They are looking for the truth.   Brother C. o...
