Port Angeles Harbor Port Angeles City The past few weeks have been difficult ones.   The trip to Bremerton was bad for Elder A. and me.  It got us started on the wrong foot.  I've had a fundamental message driven home to me..success in missionary work is simply hard work.  The good feeling comes not only from baptisms, but in knowing you've been thorough and dedicated.  It is impossible for me to tell  now whether my mission is a success.  I'll know in 5 or 10 years from the type of life I'm living then. There are many things I want to do in life.  Unless I consolidate my goals and aspirations, I won't get any of them done.  First I must list all of the things I wish to attain in this life and the next.  Then I must rate them in order of importance.  My mission has certainly given me a new perspective on eternal goals and eternal principles.  It seems as we can govern this life by eternal principles we are doing all we can...

  June 15, 1971 Bremerton, Washington I have been giving serious thought to many things lately. In particular, I think we are suppose to prepare ourselves in every way possible to return to Heavenly Father. We must do all we can to "celestialize" ourselves- spiritually, mentally, and physically. Spiritually, we must be free from all sin, be "void of offence towards any man," forgiving and merciful, charitable, etc. Mentally we must be using all our God given talent. Physically we must live the word of wisdom and be physically fit. God is not fat or flabby--poor physical upkeep is not an attribute of godliness. Milton R. Hunter visited our stake conference in the Puget Sound Stake. The leadership meeting was concerned with he social services bureau of the Church; particularly its job in settling domestic and personal difficulties. The Church has a vast program and excellent personnel to help troubled, or wayward saints....

  The open house was a moderate success.  Six or seven non-members came.  The displays were well done.  It inspired confidence in the members.  Next time, maybe, they'll invite friends.  It's difficult to stay fired-up.  Port Angeles Ward isn't enthusiastic about anything.  They have embarked on a building they must raise money by September.  ... The ward understands its responsibilities;...these people need to taste success for a change.  It will spear them on to more success.  ...I have pledged to do everything I can to support all of the ward projects.  Immediate goals are to hold regular cottage meetings and firesides. As we can get the fellowshipping organs functioning we can begin to inject new life into the ward.  Investigators can be converted, and inactives activated.     It is amazing how even the active members can justify taking a weekend off.(Memorial day).  I really feel the ward mission c...

Missionary Journal for May 21, 1971

  It's just getting to the point where I cannot back track and still keep my diary up to date.  Suffice it to say, Elder H. and I got along well, and had a good companionship.  He did not want to stay in La Conner and left April 30.  We did baptize S. and found Sister P.B., who'll be baptized soon. Elder R. and I were not together long.  I found out the day he came in that I'd be going the following Friday.  We worked hard at teaching him the area.  Meanwhile, Elder C. progressed well on his co-equal.  He passed off his fourth on the day I left. Elder D.H. is probably one of the most memorable characters I'll ever meet.  He's a good elder, and a great guy.  We spent many days together.  It's hard to put into words the love I have for him  It is great. The past two weeks have flown by.  My companion is Elder S.D.  He's from SLC and has been out 7 or 8 months.  He is a likeable guy.  He needs experience in mis...

  April 24, 1971: Conference Notes Things have really been busy since Elder H.  arrived.  We are getting along very well. As soon as Elder W. left I began to iron out the difficulties in the district.  Finally I decided to recommend a district division.  I proposed it once more at the District Meeting.  All seemed in agreement.  Saturday, April 3 was a District Leader Seminar.  I discussed it with the President then.   The past few weeks have been full of disappointment and heartbreak.  Although we have taught the B.'s, follow-up on them had been very poor.  Seminary and Sunday School attendance has hit an all time low.  Saturday, April 3rd, we had a good District Leader Seminar.  As District leaders we decided to really work hard.  We discussed many things.  President W. introduced the open house manual and the ward council missionary program.  He mentioned interviews.  Elder T. discussed intervie...
